Lars Helldahl PhD Chemistry
Pigment Analysis – Raman Spectroscopy
Lars Helldahl was born in 1950 in Eskilstuna, Sweden. He obtained a master’s degree in Chemistry at Chalmers, Gothenburg, in 1975, and got his first job at ASEA-Atom’s nuclear fuel plant in Västerås, as responsible for analysis operations. He was employed there until 1987, and in the meantime he obtained his PhD at Stockholm University as an industry doctoral student. Between 1987-1990, Lars Helldahl worked as a Technical Attaché at the Swedish Embassy in Tokyo.
After returning to Uppsala, Sweden, he started Kagaku Analys AB and several other companies, such as Hot Disk AB. From 1996, Kagaku Analys AB was the representative for English Renishaw’s Raman instruments for the Nordic countries. For many years, Kagaku Analys AB has also represented several Japanese manufacturers of analysis equipment, such as SPS (Spark Plasma Sintering).
Lars Helldahl has published several articles on Raman spectroscopy and thermal analysis. The Raman works include art, archeology and medical applications. In 2014, Lars Helldahl sold his companies Kagaku and Hot Disk to colleagues in Gothenburg, and now works as Senior Adviser. Since 2018, he has also collaborated with the Ångström laboratory in Uppsala in Raman spectroscopy.
